In a wonderful development for community engagement, PE Direct has successfully placed two enthusiastic candidates, Alex-Lee Darby and Joseph Thomas, with the Vale of Glamorgan Youth Service. Both candidates are already making a significant impact as part-time youth worker assistants, running evening youth club sessions for young people aged 11–18. Their focus is on outdoor sports activities, utilising the green space available to foster physical fitness, health, and well-being among the youth.
Joseph Thomas, a first-year university student, is thrilled about the opportunity.
“I am currently supporting the youth workers in the Vale, helping run sport and fun activities. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time there and am looking forward to working there more in the future. As a first-year student at university, roles like these are perfect for building my experience and for future referrals/references once I’m qualified.”
Joseph’s enthusiasm and dedication are evident as he embraces this role, eager to contribute to the community while gaining valuable experience for his future career.
Alex-Lee Darby shares her positive experiences and the fulfilment she finds in her work.
“I currently work as a youth work assistant two nights a week in the Vale. My responsibilities include organising and supervising outdoor green activities for the children. This role is incredibly fulfilling as I witness the children’s growth in confidence and their enjoyment during these activities.”
Alex’s commitment to nurturing the confidence and enjoyment of young people highlights the positive impact of these sessions for the local youth.
Thanks to PE Direct, both Alex and Joseph are also working in additional PE and ALN roles in schools, further extending their positive influence on the next generation. Their dual roles allow them to contribute to various aspects of pupil support and youth development, making a significant impact both inside and outside of school.
The collaboration between PE Direct and the Vale of Glamorgan Youth Service underscores the importance of connecting passionate individuals with roles that benefit both their professional growth and the community. With Alex and Joseph on board, the Vale of Glamorgan is enhancing its youth programmes, fostering supportive and engaging environments for all participants.
Congratulations on the amazing work you are doing Alex-Lee and Joseph, we are extremely proud!
